Postmenopause
Postmenopause
The postmenopause is defined as starting 1 year and 1 day after your last period.
For many women it can be alarming to find that the symptoms of menopause don’t always stop here and may carry on for several years. It’s a time when we’re adapting to our ‘new normal’ of lower hormone levels, so it’s also a time where we need to pay extra attention to our health and wellbeing.
On the positive side, there are no more periods, and with time, many women experience a renewed sense of wellbeing, or a ‘second spring’ as it has been called, where they really come into themselves and find a new sense of purpose.
However, it can also be a time when health issues start to appear. This might include stubborn weight gain, aches and pains, mood and cognitive issues, or vaginal or urinary complaints. You may be finding it harder to deal with stress than you did previously. You may also be diagnosed with a health condition such as pre-diabetes, Type 2 Diabetes, underactive thyroid, high cholesterol, high blood pressure. And it’s a time when you might be thinking about the visible signs of ageing, or bone, brain and heart health.
It can also just be a really challenging phase in your life. You may be dealing with elderly parents, coping with an empty nest (or a nest that you can’t empty!), maybe even caring for grandchildren, as well as making major career decisions.
There can be a lot going on and it’s really important to optimise your health, take care of any niggles and learn how to manage and support any specific issues. The good news is that by doing this, you will really be taking control and protecting your health for your future.
How We Can Help You
At The Prior Clinic we carry out a 360-degree review of your health and wellbeing. We zoom out to consider how your health history, genetics, diet and lifestyle, and any lurking imbalances might be at the root of any ongoing issues.
We then work with you to create a personalised plan that addresses your symptoms and optimises your health. Your customised care plan will include nutrition and lifestyle changes, and nutritional supplements where appropriate. If we feel that testing could help us pinpoint underlying imbalances and root causes, we’ll recommend those too. We also have a team of expert partners to help in areas of mental and physical health where needed.
